The $480 million deal marks a successful exit and partnership for Sands Capital and Brightflag.
Sands Capital is proud to announce that Brightflag, an AI-powered legal operations platform and a Global Ventures portfolio company, has been acquired by global information services leader Wolters Kluwer in a $480 million transaction.
The acquisition strengthens Wolters Kluwer’s presence among midsized corporations in the United States and Europe and supports both companies’ visions for using advanced technology to enhance legal operations.
Sands Capital first invested in Brightflag in 2019, leading its Series A funding round to help scale the company into a global leader in legal technology. The firm deepened its support in 2020, investing further to expand Brightflag’s international footprint and accelerate product innovation.
“Since Brightflag’s inception in 2014, the team has been redefining the future of legal solutions with innovative AI-powered technology,” said Michael Graninger, managing partner at Sands Capital. “We’re proud to have partnered with them over the past six years and to have played a role in supporting their exceptional growth. We look forward to seeing the continued impact they will have on the evolving legal industry through their partnership with Wolters Kluwer.”
Led by Sands Capital’s Global Ventures team—which partners with entrepreneurs building transformative early-stage technology businesses—Brightflag exemplifies the kind of market leader the team seeks to support. The company now joins a growing list of notable portfolio exits, including Agilis, Anaplan, ModMed, and DocuSign.
