Our People, Their Stories
Discover why our professionals chose Sands Capital, and perhaps, you’ll find your own reasons to join our journey

Morgan Lee
You work on our legal team. Can you tell us a little bit more about your role?
My primary focus is on legal matters relating to Sands Capital’s venture capital and private equity investment management business. This includes fund formation, investment deal work, and ongoing portfolio company governance. These workstreams support our fundraising efforts and our investment and portfolio management activities.
When you joined Sands Capital, how did you know it was the right fit for you?
To start, the job description stood out because it emphasized behavioral traits such as “curiosity” and “humility”—qualities I had never seen highlighted in a job posting. I viewed the posting as an indication that the legal team was dynamic and selfless in its collaboration as a team and with the broader firm. During the interview process, I met intelligent, hardworking, kind people who emphasized the importance of teamwork and relationship-building. Those interactions confirmed that Sands Capital was the right place for me.
What surprised you the most about joining the firm? Can you share a memorable experience from your first 90 days?
I joined Sands Capital just prior to the firm’s 30th anniversary celebration. The week leading up to the celebration was filled with team-building events. What was most memorable to me was how inclusive the events were—open to the whole firm—and how the firm’s executive leadership was active in participating in the activities.
Can you describe any firm initiatives or events that empowered you to meet new people and build new relationships?
Sands Capital’s professional development book club has been an excellent way to meet new people. Reading thought-provoking books and participating in small and large group discussions allowed me to connect with colleagues in an intellectual and social way as a new hire.
How did Sands Capital’s values align with your expectations as a new hire?
The firm is true to its values. We are in the client service business, and our commitment to that value shines throughout our operations. As a new hire, I especially appreciated the culture of collaboration, inclusivity, and strong work ethic of my colleagues.
What advice would you give to someone who has recently joined the firm?
You will meet a lot of kind, thoughtful, approachable people. My advice to new hires would be to take advantage of the opportunity to connect with your colleagues. I have found that folks are always willing to schedule one-on-one meetings to share their institutional knowledge and answer specific questions. These conversations enabled me to better understand how my role fits into the broader operations of the firm.
