Celebrating the Life of Our Founder, Frank Sands Sr.

With heavy hearts, we announce our founder and former chief executive officer and chief investment officer, Frank Sands Sr., passed away on Thursday, March 18, 2021.

Frank founded Sands Capital in 1992 and served as the firm’s first CEO and CIO until his retirement in 2008. He was a visionary leader, a great mentor, and a friend to all who had the pleasure of working with him. Under Frank’s leadership, Sands Capital became one of the leading growth equity managers in the world.

Frank established the firm with a simple mission statement: Sands Capital exists to add value and enhance the wealth of our clients with prudence over time. He reminded new and old colleagues of this responsibility to clients and strove to develop an enduring culture imbued with this purpose. Frank deeply enjoyed the process of collaborating with colleagues and had enormous respect, love, and appreciation for them.

For nearly three decades, Sands Capital has focused exclusively on active, long-term investing in leading growth businesses that meet the firm’s six investment criteria. That legacy remains. As an independent, staff-owned firm, Sands Capital is guided by a strong leadership team including CEO and CIO Frank Sands Jr., who succeeded his father in 2008 after serving as director of research alongside Frank Sr.

We mourn the loss of our dear friend Frank Sr., celebrate his life, and remain committed to carrying out his legacy. Our condolences go out to the entire Sands family.
