Exponential Growth Opportunities May be Found in Emerging Markets

September 2020

Sands Capital portfolio manager and research analyst Brian Christiansen discussed growth opportunities in emerging markets at an IPE Webcast Channel webinar: Emerging Market Equities: Three Experts, Three Approaches hosted by IPE.

Christiansen underscored the importance of taking a long-term investment approach in an unpredictable world and especially in areas such as emerging market equities, which have been very volatile amid the spread of the coronavirus.

Opportunities, he said, exist at the intersection of structural change in industries and economies, and innovation. In emerging markets, that pace of change is accelerated as less developed countries benefit from a leapfrog effect in which economies and industries can advance rapidly through the adoption of new technologies without going through intermediate steps. The potential for rapid advances can translate into exponential growth opportunities.
